FAQ

How is SAGE Skincare different?
We build our formulations with melanated skin as the reference point, not an afterthought. That means every product is designed to work effectively on highly pigmented skin while still meeting diverse needs across all tones and life stages. Our approach is physiology-first: we support the natural biology of your skin without overloading it. We don't lean into using unnecessary fillers, fragrances, or irritants; we build our brand around providing just what your skin actually needs to thrive.

Who is SAGE Skincare for?
Our products are made for people who want effective skincare without the guesswork.  Whether you're managing tough skin conditions or simply prefer clean, intentional ingredients, we're here for you. If you value transparency, minimal ingredient lists, and formulas that actually work for sensitive or eczema-prone skin, you're in the right place.

What does physiology-first mean?
It means we start with how skin actually functions, not trends or marketing buzzwords. We look at the biological needs of skin (barrier support, moisture retention, protection) and formulate around that. It's a science-based approach that respects your skin's natural processes instead of fighting against them.

Why don't you have any moisturizers on your website?
We have intentionally chosen to launch SAGE Skincare with a panel of anhydrous (water-free) balms.  Removing water eliminates the risk of microbial growth, which means we don't need to add preservatives to keep organisms like bacteria and mold from growing in our products. This also allows us to use a limited list of powerful ingredients that won't spoil quickly.  Our balms are packed with lipid-rich ingredients that cushion, protect, and lock in moisture, without any of the filler.  As we expand, we will add products to meet the needs of our customers while staying true to our formulation principles.

Are your products safe for babies and adults?
Yes. Our minimalist formulas are gentle enough for infants, effective enough for adults, and designed for long-term use across all life stages. We don't include fragrance, essential oils, or common irritants, so they're safe for even the most delicate skin. When we offer custom-made products that may contain irritants, we will be clear in our labeling about the risk.  However, it is always best to test any new product on a patch of skin to see if it will trigger an undesired reaction.

Can I use SAGE Skincare products if I have eczema or sensitive skin?
It is always best to test any new product on a patch of skin to see if it will trigger an undesired reaction. However, our formulas are intentionally gentle and avoid known irritants, making them ideal for eczema-prone, inflamed, or reactive skin. We designed these products to nourish and protect without triggering flare-ups.  When a product contains ingredients that may have a higher risk of causing/ worsening skin irritation, we will do our best to highlight the risk in our labeling and descriptions.

Are your products vegan and cruelty-free?
Yes on cruelty-free; we never test on animals. However, most of our current formulations contain beeswax.  Check individual product pages for specifics.

Do you offer bundles or systems?
Yes! We offer bundles optimized for how skin changes as we age (Bare Baby for children, Smooth Skin and Skin Glow for adolescents and teens, and Skin Shield for mature skin) but you can use whichever line fits your skin the best. You can also bundle by need: Body, Face, and Lip. Mix and match to build a simple, integrated routine for yourself or the whole family.

How should I store my SAGE Skincare balms?
Store your balm at room temperature, away from direct heat or sunlight. Because our products are water-free, they may soften in warmth and firm up when cool; that's completely normal and won't affect performance.

Why does my balm feel grainy?
We use unrefined, minimally processed natural ingredients and sometimes the rich butters can crystallize slightly after a few days or after warm-cool cycles.  This is purely cosmetic and doesn't affect how the product works. Just warm the balm between your hands and it'll melt right into your skin.

How long will my balm last?
A little goes a long way, so even our smaller sizes tend to last several months with regular use.  Shelf life depends on the product, but our anhydrous formulas are stable on the shelf for 12–24 months when stored properly. How long your products remain potent and fresh after being openend depends on how they are stored and used after opening.  Each package shows an icon with the minimum time that the product is expected to last in its original state.

Do you ship internationally?
Not yet; we currently ship within the United States only. We do plan to expand internationally in the future.
